Cross-functional collaborations
Over the years, I’ve had opportunities to broaden my perview across the company and build strong partnerships with other functions. Design strategy is strengthened when the design team can build empathy with the expertise of others.
Some examples of these collaborations and outcomes below.
Customer success
At Lumanu, the Director of CS and I met biweekly to go through top issues that customers contacted us about, and we worked to get these prioritized and resolved. We also collaborated to get to the deeper 'why' behind customer feature requests and develop better solutions. During the archetype research, the team and I weaved in questions such as frequency of making edits to an invoice after sending so we could get a sense of issues to prioritize
Product Marketing
My partnership with the Director of Product Marketing led to cohesive journeys across channels. One of these included social media promos for new customers, who saw similar messaging during onboarding and the first-time experience. We also streamlined referral program earnings with moments of delight throughout this journey.
Additionally, during my time at Lumanu I managed a product marketer and we coordinated in-app education and help articles for new and updated features. We also worked together on moderated research and surveys. This was invaluable for a big redesign we rolled out for the payments flow, and experienced minimal support contacts because of it.
Sales & Marketing
I worked with these teams to find growth opportunities in the product, showcased upcoming features to potential clients, and provided screens for slides and other materials. In addition, I've introduced thoughtful ways of capturing warm leads in-product as a result of chats with account managers.
Conclusion
This isn’t a comprehensive list of partnerships — I’ve had success bringing legal and other regulatory teams early on as well — but are highlights of when design partners with other orgs, creative problem solving can happen.
